Psycho-educational assessment is available for children utilizing the most recent and accepted measures of cognitive and educational functioning. Some of the measures used include the Stanford Binet Intelligence Scale – 5th Edition, the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence and the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children.

An intellectual assessment identifies areas of cognitive strength and weakness. These areas may include verbal and language functioning, visual-spatial functioning, numerical reasoning, and memory functioning. Learning disabilities are suspected when there is a significant discrepancy between a child’s intellectual functioning and academic performance and when other psychological and environmental factors are ruled out.

Assessment is conducted in a supportive environment to maximize performance and validity of results. Information is gathered using a variety of the most up-to-date and reliable tests and procedures, specific to the child’s presenting problem. Classroom observations and teacher interviews are often used to gain a comprehensive view of the child.
